Shruthi Baskaran-Makanju is a partner at Boston Consulting Group in Seattle and was formerly the special assistant to the director of innovation at the UN World Food Programme. A lifelong vegetarian, she's dedicated her time over the past two years to supporting pastoralists, or nomadic livestock herders, in Africa, trying to integrate them with markets. She holds a BS in civil and environmental engineering from Penn State and a joint MS-MBA from Stanford University, and she shares global, seasonal, vegetarian recipes at Urban Farmie.
