Why you should listen

As executive director for Detroiters Working for Environmental Justice (DWEJ), Laprisha Berry Daniels is helping to dismantle the status quo that forces those who live, learn, work, play and pray in Detroit, Michigan, to bear the undue burden of environmental hazards. For the last 20 years, Daniels has worked to reduce health and economic disparities, including those relating to culturally appropriate physical and mental health services; safe and affordable urban housing; and clear air, water and soil.
Berry Daniels’s previous work includes leadership roles in community-based participatory research at the University of Michigan and Johns Hopkins University. She also served as the director of health services at the Detroit Health Department, where she helped mitigate the impact of COVID-19 at a time when Detroit was making national news for being among the cities leading the nation in number of confirmed cases per capita.
