Why you should listen

Aline Sousa is the president and director of the CENTCOOP, a grassroots network organization of wastepickers that works for their social recognition and development. She also advocates for more consistent support and fair payment for their environmental services, as globally they are on the frontline of fighting climate change in the waste sector. She is CENTCOOP's first female president, working to strengthen and develop waste picker-led waste management systems in Brazil, such as recycling, composting and collection systems. She deals with everything from the simplest to the most complex issues, with more than 1,000 waste pickers from more than 20 cooperatives in the network.
