Theme: Creative solutions to 21st century problems

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

David Robinson

David is a community worker, the co-founder of Community Links and now Senior Adviser. Community Links works with more than 16,000 people a year in East London and shares the local experience with policy makers and practitioners nationally through publications, training and consultancy. David currently leads the Early Action Task Force tackling the question "How do we build a society that prevents problems from occurring rather than one that deals with the consequences?" He also founded We Are What We Do and the Children's Discovery Centre. He is a trustee of the holding company for the Big Society Bank and, as one of the architects of the Social Impact Bond, chairs the Social Impact Bond advisory group.

Symeon Brown

Symeon has worked at the Howard League for Penal Reform with young men and women in custody, founded a grassroots youth project HYPE and was the senior researcher of the Guardian and London School of Economics investigation into the England riots. Symeon has written on young adults, justice and migration for a number of publications including The Guardian, New Statesman, The Voice and the Huffington Post.

Virginia Gardiner

Virginia is the founder and CEO of Loowatt Ltd, a revolutionary waterless toilet system that creates local economies around waste systems. Previous to this Virginia was an editor at Dwell and a freelance writer for The New York Times.

Jake Berger

Jake Berger is Programme Manager for Digital Public Space in the BBC's archive development team. He was involved in the creation of The Space, a website which enables people to access the arts for free. He will be talking about the opportunities (and obstacles) that will be created when the contents of archives, museums and libraries are open up online in a machine-readable form.

Julia Slay

Julia is Social Policy Programme Coordinator at New Economics Foundation. She is currently working on projects which look at coproduction, innovating social policy and alternatives to austerity. She will be speaking about introducing co-production to social policy.

Deanna Rodger

Deanna Rodger is an actor and spoken word poet. She is the youngest UK Poetry Slam Champion (2007) and completed vocational acting training in The National Youth Theatres (NYT) REP Company 2012. She has written and performed as a poet and actor in 2012 Olympic Team Welcome Ceremonies, Buckingham Palace, Speakers House, 10 Downing street and Honey Coated Dream. She has recently completed the audio recording of 'Feral Youth' by Polly Courtney. She is co founder of Chill Pill and Come Rhyme With Me and is in poetry collectives: Rubix, Point Blank Poets and Keats House Poetry Forum, as well as leading on workshops in and around London.

Tim Hubbard

Tim leads the Vertebrate Genome Analysis Project at Wellcome Trust's Sanger Institute. He is also a specialist adviser to NHS England, delivering genomics for health programmes.
