United States Air Force Colonel (Retired)
A defense and security professional with broad experience in leadership, program management, international and cross-cultural relations, and team building. After serving 30 years in the United States Air Force as a Pilot and Weapons Officer, Foreign Area Officer, and Military Attaché, he moved into the private sector as a defense programs leader and senior consultant. He speaks Spanish, Portuguese, and Arabic and has lived in Qatar since 2017, retiring from the military as a Colonel in June 2021.

With a unique perspective shaped by both scientific inquiry and literary analysis, she will explore how narratives within literature offer profound insights into health, identity, and societal norms. Ebrar's work in psychological and medical research, and in-depth literary critique reflects a dedication to understanding the human experience at its core. In her TED Talk, “In Sickness and In Health: How Literature Helps Us Rethink the World,” Ebrar invites audiences to consider how literature not only tells stories but also reshapes our views on illness, resilience, and the human condition.

Nancy Nader

Dr. Nader obtained her master and PhD degrees in the field of metabolism/endocrinology/nutrition from the University of Claude Bernard, Lyon, France, followed by a post-doctoral training at the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD/NIH) in Maryland, USA. Throughout her training studies, her research work focused on the molecular regulation of different hormones. Dr. Nader is currently an assistant professor of research at Weil Cornell Medicine in Qatar (WCM-Q), which she joined in 2012. Her studies focus on the maturation of oocytes, as well as the characterization of the membrane progesterone receptors, how they function, and their effectiveness as potential targets to treat diabetes.
