In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Karim Ali

Karim Ali, a documentary filmmaker, began his career after studying media management at The Arab Academy of Sciences and Technology in Alexandria, Egypt. His debut film, Airplane Mode, explored the transition from city life to the tranquility of the South Sinai desert. Captivated by the desert and sea, Karim moved to Sinai and immersed himself in the Bedouin community. His documentary The Children Behind Zalaga, about children working in the camel field, was recognized at IDFA, Visions du Réel, and Festival della Lessinia, where it won the Future Award for Best Film by a Young Director. Al Jazeera Documentary also joined as a co-producer of the film. Now based in South Sinai, Egypt, Karim continues to document the hidden aspects of Bedouin life.

Marwan Tarek

Film director
Marwan, born in 1997, graduated from Victoria College, Alexandria, in 2016, and studied Fine Arts at Alexandria University. His filmmaking journey began at 10 with a short film for a Bibliotheca Alexandrina competition. His viral Victoria College ’16 graduation video caught national attention, leading to work as an assistant director with Ahmed Al-Naggar for three years. Marwan’s film Young People won 1st place in a Ministry of Youth competition, earning him a filmmaking scholarship in Tunisia. His works include The Dark Side of Victoria, screened at the Trés Court Festival, and The Return of the Fiercest Type of Hawks, featuring rapper Shahyn. Marwan’s award-winning films like Mama and I Grew Up highlight personal and societal themes. His music videos, including Muftares and Nazlet Samman, gained national recognition, while Umm Al Dunya won the audience award at My Design Film Festival.
