(Hailey) Jiwon is a fresh(wo)man in Korea International School Jeju whose doubts and desires were answered by philosophy. Philosophy was a justification for her seemingly distant problems, and she believes it will be a vital tool for the future.
Jiwon has experienced various scenes of South Korean education, and her passion for philosophy shaped how she views the system.
Voicing how South Korean teenagers perceive philosophy, Jiwon hopes to inspire her peers to engage with philosophy and raise awareness about its importance. She also hopes to go further and inspire teachers and the education system to put more emphasis on philosophy.
(Hyunseo) Anthony Kim
Anthony, who hails from diverse cultural backgrounds in South Africa and South Korea, has traversed various societal norms, from encountering Zulu Tribesmen to Haenyo divers and relishing fish' n' chips to savoring Kimchi. His upbringing sparked an interest in observing inefficiencies and scandals in organizations, leading him to excel in History and Economics.
Fascinated by the evolving business landscape, where companies strive to balance profit and societal good, Anthony delved into sustainability and ESG management.
As a sophomore at Korea International School Jeju, Anthony honed his passion for contributing to global betterment through informed consumerism and strategic investment in ESG. In his TED talk, Anthony advocates for "Smart Active Consumerism," urging individuals to embody the role of "The Impartial Spectator" in the economy and critically evaluate their actions to catalyze positive change in the corporate world.
(Jayden) Junhyeok Park
(Jayden) Junhyeok is a passionate music composer who pursues both intellect and creativity. By balancing academic studies during the day and music at night, Junhyeok gains inspiration from global sources and personal experiences. Through his journey, Junhyeok observed how societal expectations in education and the music industry often stifle individuality and creativity, favoring materialistic success over original expression. Motivated for change, Junhyeok advocates for empowering students and young artists to strive for originality, think critically, and redefine success by fostering creativity and innovation in all aspects of life.
(Jenny) Gibbeum Jin
(Jenny) Gibbeum is a passionate fresh(wo)man in Korea International School Jeju about sustainability and behavioral psychology. Analyzing the often-overlooked interaction between individual self-interest and collective action in addressing climate change, Gibbeum challenges the common human tendency to prioritize self-interest over environmental responsibility, known as self-serving bias. Gibbeum hopes to motivate people to step out of this tendency to take meaningful action to protect our planet.
(Scarlett) Suye Yun
(Scarlett) Suye has personal experience with dopamine addiction, having grown up in South Korea surrounded by digital stimuli. Based on her own struggles with the compulsive and destructive nature of excessive dopamine, Suye is passionate about redefining happiness through the lens of neuroscience and social psychology. Suye emphasizes the importance of balance in life, calling for a shift from immediate pleasures to long-term fulfillment. Suye's journey toward breaking free from the dopamine cycle has inspired both herself and her audience to promote a healthier, more mindful approach to well-being in the digital age.
