Small actions, big impacts.
TEDxYouth@SJII 2023 explores the complex idea that even the smallest of decisions or actions can create unexpected waves of change. Fleeting moments can result in monumental changes. Every action—no matter how trivial—has an impact. This year’s event features speakers who have embraced the profound power of the butterfly effect to inspire transformation in their communities and beyond. From unexpected decisions setting off a careers in the world of education and food to social media, our 5 remarkable speakers embody the essence of TED and discuss the interconnectedness, and unpredictability in our society.

Aaditya Tandon

Student
Aaditya is a Grade 10 student at SJI International. His two favourite things are playing basketball and sleeping. He also loves listening to his favourite artist, The Kid Laroi. In this year's TEDxYouth@SJII, hosted at SJII, he has chosen to talk about his adversities and solutions.

Charlie McBride

Highschool Chemistry Teacher
Charlie McBride was born in the USA, and is currently a Chemistry teacher at SJII. He has taught in places such as Eswantini, NYC, Cairo, Brussels, Suzhou, Nanjing and Singapore.

Hi my name is Janet and I enjoy reading, debating, and of course talking. My favourite movies are Silence of the Lambs and Legally Blonde. I first entered the world of public speaking and debating when I joined MUN in Grade 7 where I was first introduced to the debate of prevalent International issues. MUN ignited a passion in me for speaking and learning about our world; both the mistakes and the solutions we can create.

Rishi Naleendra

Chef
Chef Rishi Naleendra possesses an instinctive flair for dissecting ingredients and techniques. He has been creating what he humbly calls very logical combinations of flavours, textures and aesthetics that strike a fine balance in much-vaunted dishes which have received numerous accolades in Singapore. He is Sri Lanka’s first Michelin-star chef and has several Michelin-star culinary ventures such as FOOL, Cloudstreet, and Kotuwa. In his speech, Rishi will discuss the pivotal moments in his life that led him to where he is today in both his personal and career journeys. From an ambitious kid stuck in his hometown to a master of flavour, Rishi’s story offers a lesson of taking uncalculated ways to achieve impossible goals

Steven Chia

Journalist
Steven is an award-winning journalist with over two decades of experience. A familiar face at CNA, he currently helms the show Talking Point and podcast - Deep Dive. Before that, he hosted the early morning show – AM Live! as well as evening bulletins such as Singapore Tonight.
