Theme: The Changing World

Sunset Beach is a beautiful, wave-shaped beach situated in Downtown Vancouver near the Burrard Street Bridge and at the confluence of False Creek and English Bay. Biking, walking and inline skating paths wind above the beach area, leading to Stanley Park in one direction and Yaletown in the other. A popular place to visit, especially during the warmer months, thousands of residents and tourists alike visit this picturesque location each year to enjoy views of the marina on one side and the skyscrapers on the other while relaxing on the sand.

The theme for this year's TEDxYouth@SunsetBeach event is "The Changing World" which will showcase Vancouver's very own 'ideas worth spreading.' Join us to explore how the viewpoints of youth differ from previous generations and how perspectives are changing as a result of recent world events.

He’s a technology and venture lawyer and exit advisor to entrepreneurs, and his writing has been featured in leading peer reviewed journals, newspapers and media outlets. He’s also the founder of Finding Meaning, a non-profit dedicated to helping people find more meaning and purpose in life via rational and research-based tools.

Henry Luo is a student at West Point Grey Academy. As a youth engaged in community service and passionate in social issues, he is intrigued in understanding the rapidly changing world around us. He wishes to bring attention to issues that are real but unspoken, and solutions that are effective but unrecognized.

Jenny Miner McCombs is the Originator and Creator of the mental Health Awareness Blog, Drowning in Madagascar, Authoring a Six Book Series currently being penned bearing the same name.

Luke is a rising motivational speaker who’s passionate about helping youth navigate through hardships. His mission is to bring comfort and hope to others through sharing his journeys with cancer.

Marissa Lear

Youth

Ever since Marissa was little, she's loved talking. From acting to singing to poetry, she instantly gravitated towards any way to express words. As she grew up, specific social justice issues resonated with her and she wanted to use her voice to make a difference, especially when it came to sex education and the lack thereof. It is for these reasons that she is ecstatic to be speaking at this Tedx event. She hopes you enjoy her talk and will look at sex ed a little differently after today.

Richard Chen

Youth

Richard is a 17-year-old from Vancouver, BC. Richard has participated in the world of Model United Nations for over 5 years, as a delegate, sta, and secretariat member, and hopes to share his experience with nding his voice through Model UN with everyone. In his spare time, you can nd Richard trying new recipes in the kitchen, surng public transit, or engrossed in the exploration of obscure stories in panhuman history.

Sofie Roux

Youth

The center of Sofie’s universe is Vancouver, Canada, where she has spent her life so far running the forests and streets, cherishing the raindrops and tall trees, taking ferry rides to see her grandpa, picking apples with her mom, watching sunsets with her friends, and going to the best school in the world. This fall she will leave to study civil engineering, energy systems and architectural design at Stanford University.

Susan Kiconco

Susan Kiconco is a speaker and advocate who is passionate about helping people see and discover their own unique potential. Throughout her volunteering experience, she has been able to connect with many young people and learn more about the different challenges they face. After witnessing how the pandemic had changed the world, Susan realized that the future of education lies in the power of young minds to have the ability to adapt to such circumstances. This inspired her to seek new ways to improve the current education system in order to prepare this generation for the future tomorrow.
