TEDx GITAMVizag is a 1-day event being conducted at GITAM (Deemed to be) University, Visakhapatnam. The event is hosting 9 spectacular speakers from different domains who will share their stories and empower the local community here in Visakhapatnam.

At TEDx GITAMVizag, we will be promoting conversation, unleashing new ideas, informing, and helping inspire all the attendees.
Attendees can expect a suite of short, carefully prepared talks, demonstrations, and performances that are idea-focused and cover a
wide range of subjects to foster learning, inspiration, and wonder – along with provoking conversations that matter. TEDx GITAMVizag focuses on delivering community-driven and bias-free content based on diverse topics and voices from many disciplines.

Musician

Abby V is an award-winning singer, songwriter, music composer, and producer from Toronto, Ontario. In addition to his extensive training in Indian and Western Classical Music, he has a significant studio and performing experience in R&B, Pop (English and Indian), Hindi (Bollywood), and Tamil. Showcasing his versatility as a musician, Abby has given various concerts across North America, Southeast Asia, and India. Abby is the winner of Astro International Superstar – a televised worldwide reality singing competition with contestants from all over the world. Having collaborated extensively, on stage and in the studio, with numerous world-renowned musicians, Abby has also composed, arranged, and produced numerous film scores, soundtracks, albums, and singles over his career. His debut solo album titled “First of All” - consisting of 8 original songs in English, Hindi, and Tamil - was released in 2019 to great commercial and critical acclaim.

Bomma Vivek

Commander Bomma Vivek (Retd.) was a nuclear engineer in the Indian Navy. A submariner at core, he garnered extensive experience in operations and maintenance of submarines whilst in the Navy. He also took on the responsibilities of being an instructor for submarine trainee officers and sailors indulging in course design and content creation. After wearing the uniform for more than 24 years, he moved to the corporate world in May 2021. Presently based out of Visakhapatnam, he is heading a project on knowledge management. Vivek is a fitness enthusiast dabbling in endurance sports like duathlon, triathlon, randonneuring, and marathons. He is an avid reader with interests in history and Indian philosophy, particularly in Sankhya-Yoga darshanas.

She’s a homemaker from Visakhapatnam, turned into a famous and passionate gardening guru at the “Mad gardener” youtube channel, for 10 years now. "The Mad Gardener", is a Vizag-based YouTuber with almost 5 lakh subscribers. She has been into home gardening and her videos got her the "Rhytu Nestam" award from the Vice President of India.

Subash Kakarla is a GITAM Alum who is an entrepreneur, public speaker, author and currently serves as the Chief Advisor of Public Relations & Media Cell-GUH. He is an MBA from IIM Ranchi and holds a Bachelors’ Degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering. He received the 30 under 30 Inspiring entrepreneurs award under the Young Thought leader category in 2022.

Shubham Dharmsktu

Shubham Dharmsktu is a National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad grad who traveled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari on foot to spread awareness about global warming and sustainable living. He first came into the limelight in 2015 when he solo cycled the length of the Himalayas. During the pandemic, He has helped over 1500 foreigners from 35 countries to get back to their homes through his helpline. He helped girl children in remote Uttarakhand attain education by providing them with cell phones for online classes. He has actively worked for more than 250 interior villages and helped them with medical supplies, oxygen concentrators and more.

"Kala Ratna" Guru Smt A.B.Bala Kondala Rao, accompanied by Dr Amuktha Malyada Anand are Kuchipudi exponents from Vizag. Guru Balakka received the Kala Ratna award in 2012 from the Government of Andhra Pradesh and the Sangeet Nata Akademi Award from the President of India a few years back.

Platypus Escapes- Comprising of scuba divers duo Padmavati Madipalli and Subhash Chandran have led underwater cleanups of the beaches of Vizag collecting more than 10000 kg of plastic waste through carefully planned dives into our oceans.

Susan Thomas is an IRS (Indian Revenue Service) officer and an educator. She completed her education at globally recognised universities like JNU and Oxford. She is a 2001 batch IRS officer working in the income tax department before joining NIFT Bengaluru. She is currently the director of NIFT Bengaluru. She is a prominent TEDx speaker and recently took Instagram by storm by making fun interactive reels.

Tashi Choedup

Buddhist monk

Tashi Choedup (They/She) is a Trans feminine practicing Buddhist monastic with more than a decade of experience in human rights and community work. They are currently working as a project fellow at Anveshi Research Centre for Women’s Studies, Hyderabad, India and are also an executive committee member at Anveshi. They are a core group member of the National Ecumenical Forum For Gender and Sexual Minorities (NEFGSM) at the National Council of Churches of India and a fellow at Salzburg Global LGBT Forum. They are one of the founding members of Telangana Hijra Intersex Transgender Samiti and Queer Swabhimana Yatra. They are also a student of Buddhist philosophy and psychology. Their primary areas of interest are community building, faith, religion, mental health, and queer rights and their intersection.
