It could be giving up profits to save the environment, giving up one’s interest for the love of one’s country, or ignoring society’s limitations to chase one’s passion. It could be deciding whether to allow our employees to go fully remote or hybrid.

How do we decide the best side to take in a specific situation?

Are we moved by values, vision, cultures, goals, fears, or societal/environmental pressures?

The TEDxMaitama 2022 Conference is meant to effectively help shape the minds of our attendees, partners, and our lovely community to make the best decisions when at crossroads and while building a future-proofed mindset. As many individuals and institutions are yet to recover from the Covid-19 effects and the majority are yet to grasp what realities to hold on to and what to let go to be able to survive with the numerous changes in today’s world, how do we as humans redefine what we see as realities? Aisha Yesufu

Human Right Activist

Aisha Yesufu is an active Nigerian citizen who demands for good governance, accountability and transparency. She is a business woman who teaches financial literacy and also has a voice to demand for good governance through her organization called Citizens Hub. She is a member of the #BringBackOurGirls movement that have been advocating for the rescue of school girls that were abducted from their school in 2014. She is the immediate past Chairperson of the strategic team of the movement. She was part of the #EndSars protests that took place in Nigeria which were aimed at putting an end to police brutality. She was dubbed the statue of liberty for her courageous stance in defying the attacks on citizens by the police during the protest. She was named one of BBC 100 Women 2020 a list of 100 inspiring and influential women from around the world for 2020. She is a Stanford Draper Hills Summer Fellow and a contributor to the Book of Essays Remaking Nigeria: 60 years, 60 voices.

Babatunde Irukera

Competition & Consumer Protection Advocate & CEO, FCCPC

Babatunde Irukera is the CEO, of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC). He has an exceptional record of advocacy and representation in competition and consumer protection law. Babatunde has considerable experience in transactions, consumer protection, competition law, commercial litigation, regulatory work, and government relations. He was key counsel in a large multi-jurisdictional case involving a major pharmaceutical company and the conduct of a clinical trial that resulted in injuries. His leadership of the FCCPC provides vital clarity and direction that the Commission and industry need in addressing issues of customer service/protection; promoting a level playing field in Nigeria’s marketplace; and fostering mutual industry/regulatory assurance and balance for a robust a regulatory regime that promotes business stability and investment, as well consumer satisfaction and confidence.

She is a visionary with proven strengths in communications, marketing, branding, and project management, alongside a proven track record of identifying, initiating, and capitalizing on business opportunities across sectors, especially Africa’s Agribusiness sector.

He is a member of Forbes Business Council, an invitation-only organization for successful entrepreneurs and business leaders all over the world. He is a Serial Entrepreneur and the GMD/CEO of Gtext Global. Gtext Global is the mother company of 10 subsidiaries which includes; Gtext Homes - a real estate company with a highly innovative and young workforce. Gtext Homes is saddled with the mission of building the first Green and Smart homes in Africa. Dr. Stephen is also the author of 37 books, his latest being the Billionaire Codes book.

Evelyn Castle is a pioneering health executive and impact investor. After spending a decade working in the health sector in Africa, she is now committed to building Africa’s impact investing ecosystem, with the specific goal of supporting female-owned small and medium-sized enterprises. As the co-founder of 3 social ventures; eHealth Africa, EHA Clinics, and EHA Impact Ventures, Evelyn Castle brings vast knowledge and expertise to her role in supporting SMEs. Evelyn, a California native, co-founded eHA in 2010 with Adam Thompson. She notably oversaw fundraising efforts that resulted in the organization drawing in over $250 million during 10 years, and also spearheaded initiatives that resulted in the eradication of polio from Nigeria and the containment of Ebola in West Africa.

John Amanam

John Amanam Sunday a.k.a Immortal is a native of Nsit Atai Local Government of Akwa lbom State. Born 14th November 1988. He attended Federal Government College, lkot Ekpene. A Graduate of the department of Fine and Industrial Arts, University of Uyo 2014 (BA in Sculpture) whose final year project titled "Tomorrow" won a national award for his university at Abuja 2014. He is a practicing artist who is self-employed and has been involved in several Art commissions across Nigeria. He maintains the view that Art is a creative tool for problem-solving.

Parminder Vir

Entrepreneur & Media Expert. Former CEO, Tony Elumelu Foundation.

Parminder is a commercially focused executive with broad experience in entrepreneurship, business development and media. She is a recipient of Order of the British Empire (OBE) by Queen Elizabeth for services to the broadcasting and film industry. She designed and implemented an ambitious Pan-African, holistic entrepreneurship programme, providing training, mentoring, seed capital, access to networks and markets, impacting over 10,000 African entrepreneurs as the CEO of the Tony Elumelu Foundation from 2014 – 2019. She continues to advocate for entrepreneurship as the best path for social-economic development. Prior to her work in Africa, she was the investment manager with Ingenious Media and CEO PVL Media. She enjoyed a distinguished career as a film and television producer with BBC, Carlton Television, and CEO of her production company, Formation Films. Through her work, she challenged mainstream media to open itself up to stories and perspectives that emerge from the margins.

Rasak Adekoya

Disability and Inclusivity Advocate

Rasak Adekoya is a social development and communication expert with more than a decade professional work experience. He currently work as the Programme Development Advisor at Sightsavers, technically supporting economic empowerment of persons with disabilities in African countries. Currently, he is the Speaker of the Nigeria Disability Parliament, Convener of the Nigeria Business and Disability Network, Co-founder of African Volunteering Week and Founder of 360Connect. Rasak is an author of 4-books, a One Young World Ambassador and an Ashoka change maker scholar. He is passionate about the participation and contribution of persons with disability to global economy

Timi Dakolo

Songwriter and Music Producer

Timi Dakolo is a Nigerian Singer, Songwriter, and Music Producer, born in Accra, Ghana, to a Ghanaian mother and Nigerian father from Bayelsa State. Timi’s first win at a talent show contest was the Port Harcourt-held ‘G.E FACTO’, which propelled him also to win the maiden edition of the reality show “Idols West Africa” in Calabar in 2007. Timi is a prolific music producer with outstanding accomplishments under his belt with several Headies awards and nominations, two albums, various hit singles like “Iyawo Mi”, “Medicine”, “Everything Amen” and "Obim" and a two-time stint as a judge on The Voice Nigeria. Timi Dakolo is currently signed to the UK-based record label Virgin EMI. He is married to Busola Dakolo and the couple has 3 children.
