According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, intermission means an interval between the parts of an entertainment (such as the acts of a play). Intermissions are a must for any types of performance arts if they continue for a long amount of time such as orchestra performances, recitals, plays, and musicals. We hope this event will allow the audience to take a short break in a hectic life. For instance, if the audience had a passive life in society before, we strongly hope they will be able to live more independently after listening to the four different topics of our talk. Even if it fails to provide direct help to the audience, it would be very meaningful to our team if they could take a short break from their busy and tiring lifestyles because we all deserve to take an intermission at some point. Thus, TEDxEwha would like to apply the idea of intermission to people’s lives, strengthening the importance of looking back and reflecting on our past acts while allotting time to recharge ourselves.
We all know the importance of having intermissions during operas, musicals and concerts. Think of a three and a half hour long concert without a single bathroom break. Do you think you can manage to keep the grin on your face just as the one you had on at the beginning of the concert? Intermissions may seem like a petty waste of time for somebody. However, history has always repeated itself and societies have fought and wandered cluelessly around the same dilemma. Maybe it’s time to stop for a minute and have an intermission.
