Theme: Changemakers

We share the stories of fearless people working to create lasting change in our community. We bring a model of changemakers from Palestine talking about their motivations, ambitions and lessons learned along the way. We’ll show you the incredible impact of those changemakers and that you too can make a difference.

The Palestinians changemakers has proven themselves to be resilient, solution-makers, and they can stand up for themselves. They are not only making a global impact but are also impacting their communities in a positive way.

The theme of TEDxAl-Manarasquare event this year is #ChangeMakers to recognize the women of Palestine’s triumphs and successes.

Environmentalist, Doctor of Public Health

Dr. Iba' Farrah is a environmentalist and a doctor of Public Health. She studied Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering in Jordan and completed her PhD in Public Health and molecular genetics.

Maysa Daw

Musician, actress, singer-songwriter

Maysa Daw an indie musician, actress, singer-songwriter. The latest member of DAM; the first Palestinian hip hop crew, a member of “Kallemi”, as well as a solo performer and writer.

Nouar Qutob

Doctor

Dr. Nouar Qutob has joined the Arab American University as an Assistant Professor and is now Assistant Dean for Scientific Research and Head of the Health Science Department at the Faculty of Graduate School. She has a long-standing interest in the molecular genetics of cancer and diseases and has a number of publications in the field.

Rania Elias

Cultural Centre Director

Rania has been the director of Yabous Cultural Centre in Occupied Jerusalem since 1998. She is responsible for local and international public relations, business management, events management, project coordination, and funding.

Rima Tarazi

Musician, Singer

Rima has lead the way for all of us Palestinian women and used her power to empower us all. She became heavily involved in the women’s movement and in social, cultural, and educational organizations. She started writing her own lyrics as a testimony to her people’s hopes and dignified struggle for freedom and justice, which were performed in various venues in Palestine and abroad. I can go on and on about her she has accomplished so much and I’m so proud she is a speaker and so excited for her talk.

Shaden Shamshoum

Health and wellness

Shaden is an advocate for promoting health and wellness, specifically in the connection of the mind and body.

Tamara Awartani

Founder and director of Palestine: Sport for Life (PS4L)

Tamara is the founder and director of Palestine: Sport for Life (PS4L) - the only local Sports for Development (S4D) organization and member in several international S4D networks. She is the first Palestinian to be a well known international expert in sports for development and sports management.

Yasmeen Mjalli

Designer, feminist and political fashion collective

Yasmeen Mjalli describes herself a someone who is creative and found herself in diaspora so she left the USA and moved back to Palestine where she is now based. She is the creative director of Nol Collective, an intersectional feminist and political fashion collective which designs and produces apparel in Palestine as well as provides a space for local women-run cooperatives and brands to feature their work.
