Chairman, Action for Pune Development
Aakash is a 21-year old Human Rights Activist and chairman of Action for Pune Development, a youth organization based in Pune. He is one of the very few youth advocates to have attended the official session of the 35th Human Rights Council in Geneva. At TEDxPICT, Aakash will talk about his journey as a youngster and the challenges that today’s youth faces for the future.
After Acoustics
Rock/Country music band
After Acoustics started from scratch, with a bunch of amateur players and no background in music. Nevertheless their passion was strong, and the zest to perform was even stronger. A stage was all they needed and a stage is what they got. After Acoustics proved that with the love of music and hard work, great things can happen.
Since then, the band has performed more than 200 shows including some of the biggest banners like HORNBILL FESTIVAL, MOOD INDIGO, MUSIC MOJO KAPPA TV, headlining college fests and winning multiple awards in the process.
They have performed with accomplished artists like Mr. Shankar Mahadevan, Vishal Dadlani, Pritam, Agnee, Indian Ocean, Benny Dayal and Hariharan.
Bindumadhav Khire
Gay Rights Activist
Bindumadhav Khire is a Gay Rights Activist from Pune. He retired from his IT career at the age of 35 and in 2002, founded Sampathik Trust in Pune to work for LGBTI Rights.
He has written 8 books, 3 plays and has made 2 short films on these issues.He has been organizing Pune Annual LGBTI Pride Walks since 2011.
At TEDxPICT, he will be talking about Gay Pride and his experiences, perspectives, and things that should change.
Dr. Medha Tadpatrikar
Environmentalist
Witnessing the death of deer due to plastic ingestion was the catalyst for Medha to begin working on waste plastic and segregation at source.
Under her leadership, The Keshav Sita trust collects waste plastic. Till date, more than 200 metric tonnes of plastic has been collected and saved from the landfill. She is also instrumental in developing the technology that recovers usable fuel from waste plastic.
At TEDxPICT, Medha will be talking in depth about the process used to make this fuel and the ways in which we can contribute to reducing plastic waste in smarter and efficient way.
Dr. Shantanu Abhyankar
Gynecologist, Blogger
Dr. Shantanu Abhyankar is a renowned Obstetrician and a Gynecologist based in Wai, near Mahabaleshwar. A popular orator in medical and lay gatherings alike, he is known for his candid blogs about women’s health issues and his wry humor. He was bestowed the Dr. Anandibai Gaurav Puraskar by the government of Maharashtra in 1997, in view of his contribution to women’s health.
At TEDxPICT, he will be talking about his arduous journey from Homeopathy to his eventual area of expertise as he ponders upon the meaning of rational medicine.
Himani Chaukar
Teacher of Philosophy
Himani Chaukar is an enthusiastic teacher of Philosophy at Ruia College, Mumbai. She is a recipient of Asiatic Society’s research fellowship for a social sciences and the best research project award in the state level inter-university research convention ‘Avishkar’ She has been studying and researching on the subject of tribal studies focusing on the tribes of Arunachal Pradesh and is well versed with the intricate details of their lifestyles! At TEDxPICT, she will share some interesting experiences and aspects of her 5 -year long study of living with these tribes.
