Mr. Ashok Row Kavi is an Indian Journalist and one of India’s most prominent LGBTQ rights
activists. With a career spanning 18 years in journalism, he has worked in newspapers such
as Malayala Manorama, Sunday Mail and The Daily. In 1990 he founded Bombay Dost , the
first gay magazine in India. He is presently the founder-chairperson of Humsafar Trust, an
LGBT and health services NGO. Mr Kavi was the first Indian to openly talk about
homosexuality and gay rights, and is actively involved in providing a formal platform for
homosexuals. He also runs several intervention programs for HIV/AIDS and STDs in
Mumbai and has been supporting similar upcoming groups in the country.

He is a Guinness World Record holder as an Organizer for “the Largest Human Christmas tree”. He has conducted campaigns for tribal rights and is known especially for his efforts for the Malayaraya Tribal Community.
