Smita Khan

Architect Dr. Smita Khan completed her PHD in 2013 in learning environments and building performance assessment. She studied at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, USA for M.Arch (1990) with Architectural Design as major, and was a Rotary International Graduate Scholar.
She has worked on evolution of a new architectural language - “Contemporary Vernacular” which synthesizes the vernacular with the contemporary. Her philosophy revolves around a conscious continuum of the traditional not only in terms of spatial order, but also on exploration & application of relevant construction techniques, recycling & reusing materials, applying local & natural materials & rejuvenating the vernacular by introduction of local arts & crafts to achieve an appropriate architectural expression for the region, its culture & its people.
