In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Anne De Graaf

Anne de Graaf is an award-winning author and peace activist who teaches, researches and writes about how young people build peace in deeply divided societies. She has written over 80 books which have sold more than 5 million copies. Her most recent project, Peace by Peace, is an online, free-access, youth peacebuilding manual, researched by her students, amplifying the voices of youth peacebuilding from around the world. Anne is the inaugural Chief Diversity Officer of the University of Amsterdam, and teaches the well-known Peace Lab course at Amsterdam University College.

Boris Filipov

Boris Filipov is an honours student at Amsterdam University College, Class of 2024, studying Liberal Arts and Sciences with a major in Humanities. He is originally from Bulgaria and moved to Amsterdam in 2021. Boris is passionate about chess, mathematics, and gymnastics.

Daniela Vicherat Mattar

Daniela Vicherat Mattar (PhD European University Institute) is trained as a sociologist and focuses her research on cities, citizenship, and care. She’s interested in how dominant ideas about belonging translate in urban forms and infrastructures and through urban aesthetics in Europe and Latin America. Daniela is currently the convener of the Culture, History and Society major at Leiden University College. Daniela has recently been awarded a Global Transformations and Governance Challenges (GTGC) grant.

Jácome Armas

Jácome (Jay) Armas is an assistant professor at the University of Amsterdam, Institute of Physics, and coordinator of the Dutch Institute for Emergent Phenomena. In 2010, he founded the international science outreach platform and event series Science and Cocktails (S&C) running in four different cities and attracting more than 1000 people per event in Copenhagen. Jácome received the Genius-prisen (Genius Prize) for science communication in 2014.

Lena-May Khazami

Lena-May Khazami is an honours student at Amsterdam University College, Class of 2025, studying Liberal Arts and Sciences with a major in Humanities and a minor in Social Sciences. She is originally from Iran, Shiraz, and has lived in Stuttgart, Munich and Dubai, before moving to Amsterdam in 2022. Lena-May is passionate about photography, self-growth, health and fitness, and travelling.

Mathilda Gustafsson

Mathilda Gustafsson is an honours student at Amsterdam University College, Class of 2025, studying Liberal Arts and Sciences with a major in Humanities. She is originally from Sweden, but grew up in Thailand, and then moved to Amsterdam in 2022 to pursue a higher education. Mathilda is passionate about teaching yoga and appropriating mindful practices among people. Reading and writing is also a huge part of exploring her curiosities, allowing Mathilda to express herself and find her own voice.

Robin Laird

Robin Laird is an entrepreneur and science communicator who believes self-care is an endlessly iterative process-much like science. Robin is the creator of “The Science of Self-Care” a community and Youtube channel that explores biomedical topics, life philosophy, and personal experimentation.

Sophie Elise Meissner

Sophie Meissner is a first-year student at Amsterdam University College. While she majors in science at school, she has always been passionate about music and the arts. Studying classical and pop music from a young age, she went on to study music at the Young Pop Academy at the Conservatory of Amsterdam and continues to create and perform her own music and art.

Viren Parakrama

Viren Parakrama is a student at Amsterdam University College, originally from Sri Lanka. Having discovered poetry at age twenty, Viren became increasingly enamoured by the Arts, by the way the mind behaves in the creative process, the challenge of allowing flow whilst balancing dissonance, control, and self honesty. Viren has worked on a plantation, lived in a monastery, and spent years exploring his movement practice and abilities. Viren conceptualises his performances by combining Karate, Theatre and Poetry.
