Agastya Rekhi

The "great growling engine of change", a metaphor for the transformative power and impact of technological advancements. The "great growling engine of change" has touched numerous sectors, and now medicine stands on the cusp of its impact. With this transformation, many opportunities and challenges emerge. Agastya’s TedX Talk will expand on the rampant changes in the medical industry, the advancement of modern medicine and the causes of concern for the future. “Will our generation be the one that reins this technology to save us or unleash an armageddon that will destroy the human race?”

Amaanat Rekhi

South Island School Student
Don’t think outside of the box. Get rid of it: In a world where our technology is advancing at an ever-increasing pace, we risk a tipping point where the machines we build would think a million times faster than the brains that made them, creating a world where the scope of intelligence is far beyond our comprehension. The education system, rooted in the past, would leave the workforce of tomorrow unemployable. With this in mind, Amaanat Rekhi founded Tech Connect, an initiative focused on exposing students to engaging and thought-provoking technological solutions in various fields to prepare the future leaders of society with the creative education they need to be successful in the world of tomorrow.

Ashley Bertagnoli

South Island School Student
Imagine fighting an AI robot on the battlefield with killer drones roaming around you, or a computer analysing vast amounts of data to locate a wanted criminal. Ashley's TEDx talk dives into the world of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and it's ability to be used in warfare, from analysing complex data in a matter of seconds, to killer drones and completely autonomous machine guns, there is so much potential that comes with the use of technology in such devastating situations. In evaluating the morality of using these technologies in combat, she poses the question of who bears responsibility for AI errors, and stresses the necessity of creating legal frameworks for new technological developments in order to guarantee the safety of the future generations.
