Putignano
x = independently organized TED event

Theme: Desire.

This event occurred on
June 18, 2022
Putignano, Puglia
Italy

Every person knows what desire is but define it precisely is not that easy because of the amount of nuances it contains.
Etymology helps us and overload the word with an even more elusive appeal: it comes from the Latin de-sidera, lack (de) of stars (sidera, from sidus, sideris).
Meaning to feel the lack of stars, to feel the lack of good luck signs, and therefore to tend toward something that is missing.
Among many others, this definition hints at the distance between subject and object of desire and therefore at the motion of mind that binds them.
To desire puts us in a state of expectation, which is accompanied by a propulsive drive to action originating from the need to bridge a distance.
Often this distance shows itself in discomfort, some kind of unease. When we feel discomfort, we try to find a way to eliminate it.
With this 2nd edition of TEDxPutignano, we want to give voice to women and men who - with talent, passion and courage - decided not to ignore the discomfort they felt inside, but to cultivate it in order to give life to desire and reach for the stars.
