In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alyssa Galicia

Student Speaker
Known as the fun-loving, optimistic, and energetic sophomore of Carmel High School, Alyssa Galicia thrives on the theatrical stage with her clever entertainment abilities as an actor in school shows. Her passion for feminism inspired and fueled her to present a talk at the conference because of the continued belief that feminism is unnecessary and detrimental in modern American society. As the natural performer, Galicia hopes to inspire others and offer a new perspective on feminism, ending with the iconic catchphrase, "Thank you for coming to my TED Talk!" Maybe in the future, you might see her with a cat and a dog, strolling joyfully around the cities of California.

Colin Dowse

Student Speaker
Colin Dowse is a Junior from Carmel High School, CA. Colin won the "Best Overall Film" at 2020 All American High School Film Festival, the world's largest high school film, and media arts festival. He also made Out Of My Mind (2021), and For a Long Time, the Sky Was Blue (2020). Currently, he works with his high school film club, teaching the fundamentals of filmmaking.

Grayden Miller

Grayden Miller is a Junior at Carmel High Schoo, CA. Miller is an active singer and guitarist, representing Carmel High's choir and the singer-songwriters guild. The talented sophomore can also morph into an artist, an athlete, and a writer, with big goals of becoming a journalist or lobbyist.

Mya Schnader

Mya Schnader is a junior from Carmel High School, CA. Mya is a former long-time student-athlete. Mya wants to spread the importance of the mental health of athletes.

Peyton Kelly

Student Speaker
Other than her home of Carmel, California, Kelly's other comfort areas include her school, being an active ASB and art student for over three years. Her outgoing and bubbly personality is accompanied by the many hours of community service at Dorothy's Kitchen, a local commercial kitchen serving meals for the homeless and poverty-ridden. Kelly's creativeness stretches to the future, expressing her long-term goals of working in the Big Apple for a design firm or digital media company, traveling worldwide, and continuously sharing ideas.

Phoebe Varjian

Phoebe Varjian is a Junior from Carmel High School, CA. Phoebe Varjian deeply questions the difference between narcissism and confidence.

Sophia Carvalho

Student Speaker
Sophia Carvalho is a Junior from Carmel High School. She is our neighborhood poet! Sophia Carvahlo hits the TED stage again, with her poem titled "Self Love".

Tosin Oladokun

Tosin Oladokun is a Junior from Carmel High School. Tosin is an active athlete and loves to read, sew, skate, take walks on the beach, and hang out with her friends.

Urmi Sumant

Student Speaker
A student teacher, entrepreneur, leader, committed volunteer--this is Urmi Sumant, a junior from Monta Vista High School. As a teacher at JET USA, a position usually reserved for adults, she educates first-generation American students on core values of Indian culture, such as meditation and yoga, to improve modern life management. She believes the continuation of the ancient practices will benefit students, especially during the pandemic. Sumant is also the founder of EarnIt, a nonprofit organization that incentivizes exercise for students by providing coupons from local small businesses after achieving fitness goals. Her energetic and dedicated personality is showcased on the TED stage, accompanied by her physical and mental fitness journey, ending with a selection of life management techniques.
