In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Alanna Taiwo

Student

Alanna a year 11 student at British International School Lagos. She is a Prefect, was the Chair of the school council and a debate member. As a debate team member, she led the team in state competitions. She was also a member of the Model UN, responsible for conducting detailed research and writing opening speeches. Alanna enjoys drama and has written and directed plays for events. She has been an independent student of LAMDA for many years. Alanna is currently on grade seven of eight and has recited written works at festivals and community events. In 2020, Alanna entered the Boston Consulting Groups National essay writing competition and received a formal commendation for her entry. Her passion for writing also led her to join the newspaper club. Currently, Alanna is the Head of Nigerian operations for an organization named Youth promise. She is a Gymnastics silver medalist and enjoys reading, swimming and skating.

David Oladejo

David Oladejo is a creative thinker, known amongst his teachers and peers for his literary prowess. Through his writing, he seeks to advocate for change and gives voices to those who have none. His creative pieces have been published in various magazines, newsletters and websites including the MAVIN, Teen Ink, and NSI’s “Unheard stories from around the world”. He’s a Queens Commonwealth Bronze medallist and a National AISEN Debate Semi-finalist. Having been to over nine schools throughout the course of his life, David has developed an interest in student learning patterns and global curriculum. In his free time, you’d find him singing, jamming to Spotify, reading or writing. Watch out for David’s premier bestseller “Buried Past”, coming out soon.

Ed Umerri

15-year-old Ed Umuerri is a speaker with big dreams, and big words. Enjoying all things in the literary aspect, he's come to speak at TEDx with everything a future leader can bring to the table. Currently attending Preston International School, he's creating a name for himself through his passionate ideals and active participation in any opportunity he's able to grasp. Always open-minded to explore new ideas, be sure to watch him present his speech on the stage.

Ikenna Nwafor

Ikenna Nwafor is versatile as he is a member of the drama group and he is referred to as ‘…an ardent actor’ by his Drama teacher. He is always ready to learn, and his leadership qualities are splendid as he owns up to duties and he is prompt to take responsibilities. Listening to instructions is one of his strengths and he makes very insightful contributions. One unique aspect is his independent approach to learning as well as his ability to work in collaboration. His caring nature and personality allow him to work well with others in a team setting, as he always respects others' opinions even when they differ from his own. A practical instance was during a class debate on “Shakespeare’s portrayal of characters.” His insightful comment was without bias; thereby showing empathy for the opinions, feelings, and perspectives of others. His explicit explanation of concept earned him the desired respect not just from his teachers, but also from his peers.

Iteoluwakishi Adebayo

Iteoluwakishi Adebayo is a God-fearing, academic driven and extremely talented young lady. She dreams of owning a successful business enterprise and plans to establish a charity that caters to providing support to the less fortunate in many different ways. Iteoluwakishi is an avid-reader, she plays the piano and enjoys photography and acting. She also volunteers to causes that she is passionate about. Iteoluwakishi has also won many awards and recognitions, from the Honour Roll academic award at her high school to the COBIS Eco-Film Participation Award. She is constantly pushing herself out of her comfort zone and this drive created the opportunity to be one of the speakers at a conference co-sponsored by the British Council on Climate and Environmental education for children and she is now on the TED X stage. Iteoluwakishi aspires to win more awards and make her mark on the world.

Nimi Sonowo

Nimi Sonowo is from Lagos, Nigeria. She is 14 years old and spends her time thinking of ways to better her society. She enjoys playing the piano, swimming and making an impact in the lives of people around her.She has given talks to people in her community and has an already published TED Student Talk. She is a student at Meadow Hall College, Nigeria.

Ofuerosa Ehia-Williams

Ofureosa Ehia-Williams is a gritty, resourceful, self-directed and gifted Year 8 student at Meadow Hall College. She consistently topped her class through primary school, becoming the school valedictorian at graduation and she attained the ‘Academic Best in College’ award in her first year of secondary school. Apart from her dedication to her academics, Ofureosa is a member of the school choir and swimming team, and is actively exploring her other passions in crafts, cooking, speaking, writing, playing the piano and gymnastics. As a creative thinker, she has represented her school at nationwide AISEN debates and has spoken on global stages, such as COBIS. Ofureosa enjoys writing and has been writing stories since she was four years old. She is currently working towards publishing her first book. Her talk is on the Mindful Use of Social Media.

Omotola Amokeodo

Omotola Amokeodo in her Ted talk titled “Double standard parenting; concerns of the Girl Child” speaks on the apparent differences in raising a girl-child compared to a boy-child in Africa which explains the misogyny ravaging the developing world. In recent times, when female equality is being addressed in the Western world, the question she asks is “what happens to the African girl-child?”. In her young years, she has lived in different parts of the United States and moved to Nigeria where she witnessed firsthand cultural differences in raising children of different sexes and its impact on the society. Her diverse upbringing has positioned her well to have this visionary discussion from the viewpoint of a young African girl-child. In her free time, she enjoys baking, participating in sports, traveling, and reading novels.

Toluwanimi Tunji-Ajala

Toluwanimi Tunde-Ajala is a hardworking, social and resourceful Year 8 student at Meadow Hall College. She was the school valedictorian at her graduation from primary school and is currently maintaining her spot on the Merit List at Meadow Hall. In addition, she was an admirable performer of songs and dances. Apart from her studies and school related works, she enjoys singing, dancing, reading and working with children and animals. She aspires to attain a medical degree and connect her passion for metal health to the world in the future. She is speaking on 'The Importance of Online Safety'

Vaanya Bhandari

A year 11 student at the British International School, she enjoys participating in arts and sports. She is a Prefect who has participated in various competitions for football, tennis, and table tennis and always loves playing new sports. She is an artist and loves sketching as well as painting watercolours. Debating competitions and speeches have always been interesting to her. Along with this, she enjoys psychology and hopes to pursue it.
