In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Aisha Hanan Buhari

Creative and Digital Photographer

Aisha Hanan Buhari is a young fine art photographer from Katsina state in norther Nigeria. She receives her BA in Digital Photography and Media in 2019, and this autumn she begins her MFA in Photography as well. Aisha has also exhibited her works in Abuja, Paris and London. As a daughter of Nigeria's most prominent politician, she has lived a life dedicated by the expectations and responsibilities unique to her family's position and therefore exists in a space that is both free and restricted. This fuels her passion for her art as it is in many respects her most honest and open form of expression. Having already lived many unique life experiences beyond her years, her work is often subtle, mysterious or even cryptic, and addresses the themes of freedom, privacy, identity, the public gaze, pride and the unseen beauty of her Fulani heritage. Her ethnicity plays an especially significant influence, as all of her work's titles are in her native language.

Alhaji Mahmud Mohammed Jega

Journalist, Deputy Editor-in-Chief, Daily Trust. Nigeria

Mr. Jega, a citizen of Kebbi State, Nigeria, is the Chairman of the Editorial board of the renowned Daily Trust Nigeria Newspaper. A seasoned journalist with three decades of experience, he is also an author and writer for various exceptional columns both in new media and traditional print media delving on history and current affairs amongst other topics. Starting out as a Zoologist, he was an Assistant Lecturer at the Department of Biological Sciences, University of Sokoto from 1983 to 1990. He soon realised he had a passion for writing. He decided to become a Correspondent and Assistant Editor for The Citizen and later on to the Newspaper of the ‘90s, New Nigerian. He took it a step further by studying Journalism at The International Centre for Journalism Training at Reston Virginia, USA in the early ‘90s and that propelled him further in the field.

Haruna Hassan Tukur

A 24-year-old entrepreneur from Yauri local government Kebbi state. Haruna attended the Regent Secondary school Abuja before going to Heriot-Watt University where he graduated with a Bachelors degree of accountancy and finance. currently, he is the CEO of Hafaz Integrated Farms Ltd, a 450-hectare farm in Yauri local government Kebbi state, that cultivates rice, maize, sorghum, and soya beans, it also consists of a rice Mill and an oil Mill for value addition. Haruna is the secretary committee on agriculture Kebbi state investment forum and a Podcast Host called Hafaz Post, a platform that interviews entrepreneurs from different sectors to share their struggles and triumphs in entrepreneurship in other to educate and motive other youths to venture into entrepreneurship.

Maryam Bukar Hassan

Spoken word Artists

Maryam Bukar Hassan, a.k.a Alhanislam, is a poet and an exponent of the spoken word, who has performed at major festivals and events including the Ake Arts and Book Festival and the Kaduna Book and Arts Festival. Over the years, her work has received critical acclaim, and she recently released her album titled “IN THE HEART OF SILENCE”, which contains one of the poems she delivered at the 2017 Ake Arts and Book Festival. As the founder of Deen-at-Heart, an organization that focuses on the moral re-engineering of the youth, she is a renowned motivational speaker, and also an active core member of the creative clan. She is the pioneer of the Deen-at-Heart foundation, under which She runs a counselling platform known as “THE HELPLINE” that offers support and counseling to young people in real time and also "THE REVERT PACKAGE" that is responsible for educating and providing basics for reverts.

Mr Jelani Aliyu, MFR

Director General, National Automotive Design and Development Council, Nigeria.

Jelani Aliyu, MFR is an International Automotive Designer and currently the Director General of the National Automotive Design and Development Council, Nigeria. A graduate of Architecture from the Birnin Kebbi Polytechnic, where he was awarded the best all round student. He also studied at the College for Creative Studies, Detroit, Michigan, United States and worked with General Motors in both the United States and Germany. Jelani is an accomplished Automotive/Industrial Designer, Architectural Conceptualist, Technology Proponent, and designer of the Chevrolet Volt Electric Car Concept. He is strongly committed to the development of Nigeria and people.

Kofo Akinkugbe, a prize-winning graduate of Mathematics of the University of Lagos, spent 12 years in banking, first at the International Merchant Bank (local affiliate of the First National Bank of Chicago) and then as a pioneer staff member of Chartered Bank. Kofo founded Interface Technologies in 1998, SecureID Limited in 2005 and SecureCard Manufacturing in 2012. She currently serves as the Managing Director/CEO of SecureID Group (comprising of SecureID and SecureCard Manufacturing). SecureID is a MasterCard, VISA and Verve certified Smartcard Personalization bureau and digital technology company whilst SecureCard Manufacturing is the first polycarbonate Smartcard manufacturing plant producing high security identity cards and documents for the Banks, Telecoms and Public sectors. Both companies, recognised and respected in the global Smartcard industry, provide high- end digital security solutions to organisations and governments across Africa and beyond.
