In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Ratul Ghosh

Ratul Ghosh is a strategy and new business expert who believes in the immense promise of digital solutions solving real problems at scale. An IIM Calcutta alumnus, he heads Uber for East India and was previously a co-founder at startups spanning interior design, cross-border e-commerce and entertainment discovery. He has spent the last 18 years incubating new thinking and innovation while leading strategy at eBay, Philips and HCL. He started his career with the Tata Administrative Service where he helped launch Titan EyePlus, Tetley in Bangladesh and M&A for Tata Steel. He has been a columnist for Economic Times Retail, chairperson of the digital commerce committee for IAMAI, a guitarist for various bands and a mentor for startups and NGOs. His interest areas include technology, consumer behaviour and choice-architecture.

SY Quraishi

17th Chief Election Commissioner of India

Dr. S.Y. Quraishi is a distinguished Indian Civil Servant, who has done his Ph.D. in Communications & Social Marketing & is an IAS Officer of the 1971 batch. Through sheer talent, determination and an inclusive leadership style , he rose the ranks to become the 17th Chief Election Commissioner of India during the period of 2010 - 2012. However, his passion for fortifying the democratic ideal and his talent in making it work in practice has fuelled his continued work, and is now the Ambassador of Democracy at International IDEA present in Stockholm, Sweden. Urmi Basu

Social Activist and Founder, New Light

Born and raised in a family of medical professionals in Kolkata, India, Urmi Basu received her primary and secondary education in the city. On completion of her first Degree in Sociology, Urmi moved to take her Masters in Social Work at the prestigious Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai. During her training she had the opportunity to work in the first cell set up for women in distress by the Mumbai Police Department. She also worked as a relief worker during the Bhopal gas leak tragedy in December 1984 which left a lasting impression on her mind about the need to be prepared for disasters, both natural and manmade.

Vivek Krishnani

Vivek Krishnani, a Weaver of dreams that hit the big screen, is the managing director of Sony Pictures India. After graduating with a masters in management studies from Jamnalal Bajaj Institute of Management Studies, Vivek had stints heading marketing and distribution for behemoths of the entertainment industry. At Fox star studios India he led the syndication of hits like Avatar and Slumdog Millionaire and while in Hong Kong, he was the executive director marketing (Asia Pacific) at Turner Entertainment networks. During his tenure as senior VP, revenue and marketing at Multi Screen Media Motion Pictures, the Indian filmproduction arm of Sony Pictures Entertainment Television Network the company co-produced the box office hit “Piku”. Vivek is a staunch believer in the power of good creative content and has backed unconventional scripts like Padman with great success despite the ever changing viewing habits of today’s consumer.
