In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

Chris Lau

“Taking journeys off the beaten path.” This Sarawakian journalist has extensive experience in conflict zones, where he has focused a large amount of his reports. He has traveled around Syria three times, Afghanistan twice, and once to Lebanon and Iran as a freelance journalist. Facing mortar bombs and snipers are some of the experiences he's been faced with during his times reporting from the frontlines of the conflict zones. He's integrated into communities and areas off the beaten path to tell the stories of people around the world.

Eshaan Menon

“Youth is a dream, a form of chemical madness.” Passion, zeal and determination are only some of the words one can use to describe this accomplished youth. His avid participation in numerous Model United Nation Conferences outline his vehemence for debate and discussion on issues from a globalized scale. Other than his association with the United Nations Association of Malaysia (UNAM) Youth Chapter, he is also the founder and current student advisor of APU’s (Asia Pacific University) MUN Club and has won several awards for ‘Best/ Most Outstanding Delegate’ by demonstrating exemplary argumentative and communication skills.

Louisa Ponnampalam

"The world’s finest wilderness lies beneath the waves …” Cetacean ecologist, chairperson and co-founder of the MareCet Research Organization, Malaysia’s first and only non-profit organization dedicated to conserving marine mammals and their environments. It’s underlying objective is to spread the message of marine conservation to the general public and has won the highly prestigious Pew Fellowship Award in 2014. Ponnampalam used the award to conduct a risk assessment of Malaysia’s dugong population and to increase management support to protect the dugong species. Dr. Louisa’s distinguished career has extended to various parts of the world including the Bering Sea, across the North Pacific Ocean, the Red Sea, Sulu-Sulawesi Sea, the Gulf of Thailand, and more recently, the southern Andaman Sea.

Pauline Fan

“Language is the key to the heart of people.” Literary translator of some of today’s most inspiring works, managing director of PUSAKA, an organisation committed to preserving the energy of the performing arts and cultural heritage of Malaysia and a freelance writer. Pauline has pursued her education in East Asian History, Literature and Philosophy from New York University with a Masters in the German Language, where she graduated from Oxford University. With the fluency of three languages, Ms. Fan has translated several novels, poetry and has been an editor for an assorted range of books including one which paid tribute to her late father.

Rajandran Muthoo

Dr. Rajan is a well-renowned Child Psychiatrist who worked in Europe for 15 years The widely experienced doctor is currently a Senior Lecturer at the International Medical University (IMU). He has his own private practise called Child First and also is the Consultant Psychiatrist at Louis Center for Children with Special Needs.

Ranga Srirangarajan

Managing Director of ASEAN and ANZ at Altair Engineering, an American company with over 45 offices throughout 20 countries, he specializes in engineering, technology, and software development. In 2012, Altair was named Computer Software Company of the Year by American Business Awards.
