Themed ‘It’s About Time’, TEDxSingaporeWomen2016 platformed Singapore’s thinkers and doers. The TEDxSingapore Community went on a mind-expanding and heart-enriching journey traversing time and space. The talks had harnessed the power of the present to create a flourishing future for us all.

PROGRAM
10am Registration open, early connection and conversation with the dynamic TED community in Singapore.

10:30am Session One: Music with the energising Djununs drummers, and live speakers: Laina Greene, Nilushika Jayaweera, Nazhath Faheema and Ayesha Khanna.

12:15-2pm Conversation break over lunch.

2pm-3:30pm Session Two: Brand-new TED Talks near live from TEDWomen2016 in San Francisco.

3:30-4pm Community connection activity and Get-to-know TEDxSingaporeWomen.

Djembe Singapore Club Members

Musicians
Djununs is a collective of drumming enthusiasts hailing from Singapore, Tunisia, Japan, Switzerland, Venezuela, and France. The collective comprises of members from Djembe Singapore Club, a local drumming community founded over 10 years ago by Kelvin Kew. United by the passion for West African rhythms, Djununs’ members seek to communicate the joy they experience whenever they play the instruments.

Ayesha Khanna

Future Work Activist
Ayesha Khanna is a digital technology and product strategy expert advising companies and governments on smart cities, future skills, fintech, and other emerging industries. As an innovation and technological expert, she is passionate about skilling up the next generation of tech-minded Millennials. In this new era of automation, Ayesha Khanna addresses the fears about the future of work and its opportunities. She envisions a future where we can embrace a new radical role at work and continue to enjoy the productive and meaningful work that we do.

Laina Raveendran Greene

Entrepreneur
Laina is the Co-founder at Angels of Impact, an impact network focused on women social entrepreneurs. With extensive experience in telecom and clean tech industries, Laina helps female social entrepreneurs to create sustainable businesses. Believing that women hold the key to the well-being of families and communities, Laina wants to empower as many as possible to be change agents, thereby creating a virtuous circle that will multiply through the generations.

Nazhath Faheema

Peace ambassador and activist
Nazhath Faheema is a branding and marketing professional, and a member of the Muslim Youth Peace Ambassadors of Singapore. As a peace ambassador, she raises awareness about religious extremism and proposes ways to counter the threat of self-radicalisation. Nazhath believes that the narrative for peace lies in the hidden stories of diversity, so she seeks to hear them out.

Nilushika Silva Jayaweera

Entrepreneur
Determined to improve her circumstances, Nilushika Jayaweera left her home in Sri Lanka to take up a job as a domestic worker in Singapore. During her time working as a domestic worker, she undertook classes to learn how to start and manage a business. Today, she is an entrepreneur who runs her own e-commerce business selling tea from Sri Lanka. She also organises regular community events and workshops to inspire other women to act on their dreams.
