In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized (subject to certain rules and regulations).

David Edelstein

In his role leading Global Programs at Grameen Foundation, David Edelstein and his team develop innovative, mobile phone-based solutions to tackle some of the most persistent problems in developing countries. Over the past 18 years, Edelstein has lived and worked in developing countries, with a consistent focus on how technology and creative business approaches can improve lives.

Emily Calandrelli

Emily is the producer and host of FOX's Xploration Outer Space, new to television September 2014. She works to promote scientific literacy and women in STEM, and is passionate about technology policy, entrepreneurship, open innovation, and space exploration. Emily is a previous employee at NASA, and earned her Master’s degree at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Hanson Hosein

Hanson Hosein is a business leader, educator and content creator who has nurtured a startup mindset for over a decade. He recently co-founded Prosperity of the Commons International, a human development and technology company. He is the author of Storyteller Uprising: Trust & Persuasion in the Digital Age, and the director of two Independent America films, which have been broadcast internationally and stream on Netflix, Hulu, and iTunes. As Director of the Communication Leadership master's program at the University of Washington since 2007, he leads powerful graduate learning experiences for professionals from around the planet.

Matthew Kaiser

Matthew Kaiser is a student working towards an honors degree in Microbiology, with a keen interest in Molecular Toxicology. His interests have led him to pursue research opportunities in cancer labs both at Oregon State University, and at other prestigious institutions including the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. A long-term visionary, Kaiser constantly works to explore developing medical technologies, and communicate those ideas to the public.

Michelle Lesniak

Michelle Lesniak, winner of Project Runway Season 11, wowed judges and viewers alike with her strong aesthetic and quick wit. Although nearly eliminated, Michelle tenaciously fought back to reveal one of the most cohesive and distinctive collections seen on Project Runway to date. Self-taught in both garment design and leather working, her love of art, print, texture, and music manifests itself through her designs. Michelle is committed to staying in her hometown of Portland. Her dedication to local manufacturing and ethical business practices is playing a key role in shaping and growing the Portland Fashion Industry.
